I'm not looking to criticise but would chassis not have been better using box section rather than beams?
Never have used box for chassis i hate it , but that’s just my opinion , It can’t be stiffened up around the spring hangers and the drawbar box , Each spring hanger position has a 150 x75 pfc welded the inside web of beam across to the other side , it’s welded to the web and flange , don’t like to think of cross members just welded to a 6or 8 mm wall it rhs will be better for torsional twist than a beam and it would be better to spray paint , the Dump trailer i made is channel chassis but fully plated like s box , the corners can be welded inside before the plate goes on

Fair enough but stiffness was my thinking where box would be better tbh as beams only have strength in one direction whereas box has strength both ways and much better resistance to twisting.

Tidy, ime wanting to make a 22ft bale trailer at some point. So as-long as the the rectangular frame of the chassis is welded up with cross members aswell and swap about wheres getting welded it should stay pretty straight?
I will pull the stands its made on to the middle when I weld the top so the weight is not working against me and put them to the ends when welding underneath as there not as much weld on the underside

strength is in design you need some flex why do you think hgv's and their trailers are not made from box
Horses for courses though. Hgv trailers need to flex and twist because there isn't much suspension articulation on a truck so beams are the better solution. You don't want tractor trailers to twist so much ideally so why not use box section to begin with. I'm not saying op is wrong it's just different ways of getting to same result.

Having seen the dump trailer in the flesh I've no concerns. Angle or channel gives the option to add extra strength where needed.
Box has to be full strength all the way along, so might finish up heavier section than actually needed in certain places.
It all depends what the customer wants.
When I was in @Forever Fendt 's yard last we looked under a new, major manufacturer, low loader and it was definately 'built to a price'. I get the feeling this is built to a maximum standard.

no he is not wrong and you don't seem to be able to grasp that strength is in the design and that it needs to flex what ever the horse or its course

Its nowt to do with a lack of grasping the design and in not saying he's wrong and that there will be anything lacking in the finished trailer. But a trailer for the back of a tractor and for the back of an articulated truck are two very different types of trailer and subject to very different point loadings so to assume because beams are used in truck trailers that most be the only way to make a trailer isn't true.
