Just dug this thread up. My homemade hurdles have served me well but it's time to upgrade.

I've ordered some ally ones off Fowrass Fabrication. See how we go on.

And I've started on a weigh crate to go into the front of the race between the race and drawbar.

Good thread restart.
...are you actually building a weigh crate or the drawbar carrier frame for one ?

Building one. Had the weighbars off allied weighing years ago but never got round to using them. Been on old pig scales.
trutest suspension cells are down in price these days can get one for about £140 ,im currently converting an old pig crate and using 2 of them to see if fitting 'stabilising arms' can be avoided to get a bit more accurate figure .
trouble is Weigh bars are always down in the muck makes them a bit more vulnerable to moisture ingress or something........

Yes I see what you mean with the load bars. As long as they don't get damaged I'm hoping that with them up in the air when driving round a bit of breeze will keep drying them up. Assuming it ever stops raining of course.

the actual weigh cells will be well sealed with resiny stuff to keep water out ,but being down under will still mean a higher chance of corrosion/shorter life because of it than being up and stay clean .
also with them at the bottom needs to be checked for build up more deliberately for bits potentially upsetting weigh accuracy .
beyond that Our allied weighing supplied weighbars under a home modded sheep crate have always worked well mind you ,i fitted them long ways one on each side but they are 1200mm long cattle ones and built like a tank :) he isnt used so much thesedays tho and needs a bit of structural repair.

Without looking I think them of mine are 1200mm and as yourself I'll be putting 2 in length ways.

Certainly one side of the crate will be detachable and the floor will just be rolled edge chequer plate so easily removed. I'll have to get it into my head to clean it out after every use.

will the sides be decent sized areas of plywood/resin board /stockboard so that various types of ear tag readers will work well with it ?
i will cut the original weldmesh sides out of the crate of mine and replace with 6 or 9mm painted ply i think, then later get panel reader(s) and fix to them, currently use a hand held.

wont look as tidy as yrs tho as its old steel and scrap added , in true prototype/development model fashion :D

Thinking stock board. As it'll be semi permanent on front of my yard, I'm trying keep the weight down so as not to rip a bollock everytime I hook it back onto my truck.

Regarding panal readers, I'm not lambing anything anymore just fattening now so there won't be to much recording needed. But obviously dwlg will be handy to just have pop up Infront of you but for now its just checking weights really.

Where's that thread

I didn't start one on that.

It would of been one post every 6 months.

Getting there now though.

U1300l bought, om362 replaced with om366 engine, fresh cab bought and fitted, total rewire, sauermann hitch bought and homemade 3 point linkage part built so far. Just starting making a fresh flat bed for the back. All hydraulics to put on yet.

It's not a restoration, I'm trying to make a modern machine out of an old nail.

I’ve made a whole career out of doing that!!! Get some pics on here!!

I use a polystone/carbonate sheet on my races. I've found stokboard warps in the heat and can pop tek screws or rivets off over time. This other stuff doesn't, it allows you to go thinner as well.

Delivered this afternoon. First impressions. Made to a price. 🤔
The actual hurdles themselves looking decent and strong enough but the joiners look weak and some of the workmanship I wouldn't of let go out.
We'll see how they go. I do want some more but if there no good then I don't get any more.

I have had a steel one which seems sound enough. I'm going to make a frame to put it in and use as a pen gate.

I'll make my own again and do a proper job of the joiners. Only reason my original ones are getting a bit withered is the fact there still tied with string and allowing to much movement between them.

What thickness polycarbonate sheets have you used and are you happy with them

They do the job. They don't crack or split when you put self tappers in them a lot like stokboard but more rigid. Like all that stuff you still need it well supported to whatever its being screwed eg 800 centres and it will flex like crazy in the middle.
