Mixed Farmer
Average trailer driver steering wheel attendant around £12 per hour
Top line professional operator capable of doing any task on their own and bring everything back in one piece up to £24 per hour i would rather pay the higher priced operator personally with the cost of kit now.

Interesting. We use a self employed chap occasionally…when checking with the NFU for the insurance required they mentioned he would need to use his own tools and come/leave when he wanted and carry out the job in his own way to be classed as self employed. I’m sure that was aimed at workshop tools…I never thought to ask whether it included tractors too 🤷‍♂️

Do you mean causal labour?
I was told you can't be a self employed tractor driver if you don't own a tractor.
Something something about owning your tools or something.

But I'm sure your not just trying to dodge holiday pay...

If he's "self employed" he'll set his price...
Creative invoice and you're sorted!

Needs to be able to provide his own holiday and sick relief person also and be able to prove it .

Seams odd. If a one man band plumber was sick for a day he wouldn't have to get anyone to go and do his work for that day.
That must be if they are providing a full cover for a long period.

Pay peanuts, get monkeys.
I was being paid a nice £15 ph in 2012, cash-in-hand for Thursday, Friday and week-ends. Pulling an articulated trailer with a brand new Claas tractor.
Not one gate post clipped, no tractor damage and ‘can-do’ attitude.
If I was in the market I’d be looking for £20 now.
I can do ‘proper’ dollies too😁👍

Self employed herdsman may well be expected to ensure the cows are milked every day, but he can pay a relief milker to do the job when he wants a break.
