As above, getting system fitted to a cottage shortly and told will be fine if run correctly ie build up heat reserves when the suns up and panels running are the pump. Then rely on insulation to maintain indoor temp thru to next morn when panels kick in again.

Time will tell

Good luck if you can get it
I cert cant & its my farming business no benefits here.
Iam just doing the Solar job tho
They can keep there Air Sourced heat pump things
Estate has just put one in a cottage here at there expence.
I wait too see what it really costs too run.
Arrrr, one of them ‘fangled’ oitems🤣
You have an air sourced heat pump in your kitchen and I bet you never give it a second thought😊

Haha v good ive two of them but cant say they heat any rooms up much mind
When your house is heavily insulated it is surprising to note where the heat sources are. As we have underfloor heating we are often barefoot or wearing just socks.
Our fridge freezer is in an alcove under the stairs and the top two steps are much warmer than all the others.

By all accounts,it needs to be a whole package of insulation, bigger pipes, bigger rads, solar panels etc. if it is a straight swap for a normal boiler they are no saving because they are running all the time
It is whatever they spec is needed to meet ECHO4 standard.

Don't look at windows or doors or draught proofing them, don't do wall insulation in bathroom or kitchen, but do upgrade the radiators. There are ventilation regs. to be met, so dont be shocked if they plane 3mm of door bottoms.

Anyway we kind of decided to go ahead , although never really was told it was approved until heating engineer phoned at Christmas to check radiator sizes and told me be here on 22nd January.

Preparing beforehand clearing some rooms took 3 evenings. They need good floor access.

We have just had a hectic 4 days having out upgrades for ECHO4. by Green Home Systems.
Still have exterior flat roof insulation and cavity wall insulation to be done.

The good bits,
we are lucky to have had what seems to been an excellent heating team. Internal insulation bit of a hiccup as workers told different walls to what we were. Solar panels (ground plane) in in one day. I had dug the trench as they were going to have pinned cable along a wall (400 volt). Excellent plasterer to finish of internal insulation wall.

Bad bits. The first survey where they arrived supposedly measured everything and away in 20 minutes. Missed out some external walls in calcs, (luckily picked up by heating guy). The providing company are shocking communicators. Got told little except dates they would have men here. The trickle vent fans fitted have gravity flap outlet which are annoyingly noisy in even a moderate wind never mind yesterdays almost gale.

New ASHP all radiators replaced with new piping. 4 walls had internal insulation fitted. 2 flat roofs having external 150mm insulation fitted. 12panelsolar array. 2 extensions to have cavity insulation. 2 trickle vent fans fitted.

Power used so far (24 hours) 52 kwh. but that included startup and lots of workers tools and every light on all day.
Solar panels produced an amazingly poor 0.9 kwh. It was a reasonably sunny day.

I expect heating costs to be more but Mrs JC needs warmth for health reasons. We have been using about 125lt heating oil, half a 15kg Calor and 450kwh electric a month. Be interesting to see how it works out in coming months.

Sorry for the long post, but TV still off the wall.

been trying to upgrade some knackered wood widows, to double glazing, no luck yet.

OAP and recieve PIP as well, any ideas anyone ?

with the number of phone calls, re loft installation, could have had about 10 feet of the stuff, had it done twice, 2nd lot, '1st wasn't thick enough'.

apparently now, neither was good enough, needs more............. jobs for the boys, l reckon.

Main farm house being done now,not mine, walls been insulated and plastered very well but finished quicker than expected. Rads had all been taken off and there's no sign of the plumbers coming yet so it's a bit chilly. Scaffolding is up ready for the panels

Bit of an update.
Last friday the system lost pressure, so no heat.
Phoned heating engineer but he was over 200 miles away. Promised monday am. Then tuesday, turned up wednesday night. Quickly found a small leak from a slipped olive. Refilled and added fresh anti freeze, here for 2 hours.
The pleasure of waking up to a warm home this morning.
Think maybe one of the biggest benefits is from the flat roof insulation.

Oh and discovering the great plasterer was a messy ba----rd. Lot of work to get house back in order, but Mrs from being sceptical about project is know appreciating it.

I'm just in the process of installing an air source heat pump, with replacing the Rad's and upgrading the hot water boiler. For a 4 bed house it's going to cost about 5k. As we are installing underfloor heating that's inflated the cost somewhat. Even so the less gas I burn the better!

Just an update re ASHP insulation etc. House is much warmer, needs time to balance times/temperatures. Still lots of cleaning and painting. Be warned it is a big upheaval in a home.

Will update running cost after 4 weeks. Solar not really producing much to help.

Solar will produce bugger all 6 weeks either side of christmas. Plenty monthly figures on line if you search.
Output / day for 2.3 kw array
