running welder off 13amp socket?

I have a Thermal arc 175 for approx 5 years now .Working on standard 13 amp fused plug. It has always blown the fuse if turned up over 130 amps. I have never seen it cut out due to duty cycle , and have often ran it continously for 30-40 minutes.
As has been said earlier here , it is surprising the repairs , hanging gates , fixing doors , barriers etc , that can be done at 130 amps . It's ability to be carried around for this sort of work make them an invaluable tool around the farm.

Only yesterday , I had a man here helping me making up shed pillars. He turned it up to 150 , and the fuse blew. 2 nd fuse blew when he put it in.
"That welder is shagged," " No it's not, it always did that ". "Well, it shouldn't. Never saw one do it before ".

So it's a thread that's both interesting , and timely to me.

Isn't there an urban legend about someone being killed by using a live bullet as a fuse, which then overheated and went off!
Mythbusters tried it with a pick up truck and a .22. Needed dead short on some heavy gauge wire on 12v but it did fire. As there was no 'breech' in the fuse holder they concluded that the expelled bullet wouldn't have much force

Looking at the spec you've given I'm guessing you've got something like an XTS162 which is 160A - not 200A. Depending on how hard you are going to be running the unit you might get away with running off a 13A socket, but you'll probably want a supply of spare fuses. You will also need to keep checking the plug/socket for signs of damage and overheating.

Initially the xts162 was the welder I was going to buy but the crowd I was getting it off have a special edition 200a version of the xts in conjunction with parweld

Steel is best for melting the plug, conductivity and resistance and all that!!!!

Not recommended but a 15amp fuse wire under a FUSED fuse would be much better.
ran my old welder on a 15 fuse wire for years never had a problem, didnt go above 150 amps though and notfor long at that level, 130 would run for ages

I know this is completely off topic but what on earth does the primary school want a 24 foot trailer for:scratchhead:

Wee countryside school enters the town gala parade every year. Parents and kids make and decorate the themed float.

It's been going on for decades.

Most recent bale trailer that had been being used was getting past its best, and took a fair bit of work to convert into something safe for kids to be on before it was decorated.

So it seemed like a good idea at the time to make a bespoke trailer for them:woot:

Edit, the trailer also has a rear platform assembly with a 50mm towball that a twelve foot ifor can be attached to. The "Willie Wanka" entry in the first picture was something like eighty feet from the front of the man basket on the loader (the golden elevator in which a parent dressed as wanka stood), to the back of the ifor which was where the old folks lay in Charlie's house bed.

It took a bit of concentration to fit that lot through the town streets!

Apologies for going off topic.

My Parweld 160 XTI is probably an almost identical model. Like many inverters, it is quite happy to run 3.2 mm rods without blowing fuses from a standard 13Amp supply.

When you come to wire it you will see the cable supplied is heavy duty stuff and would be a tight squeeze in a 13 Amp plug. I did the same as Mur Hucan has suggested and fitted a 16 Amp blue plug to the welder, which then plugs into an adapter lead with 16 Amp blue socket to 13 Amp plug. Much tidier that way and gives a good grip on the cable outer sheath.
