I am planning to walk the Camino from St John Pied y Port to Santiago, I am planning to take 8 weeks, have done a smaller version before from Leon to Santiago, and got my certificate (which I am very proud of).
Leon to Santiago is an achievement you should be proud of.I am planning to walk the Camino from St John Pied y Port to Santiago, I am planning to take 8 weeks, have done a smaller version before from Leon to Santiago, and got my certificate (which I am very proud of).
It’s a terrific country to visit especially between May & September if sking & snow is not that appealing, given a choice I would say the French speaking areas are friendlier & easier going@BrianV put some terrific photos of his recent Swiss trip on here.
Romanian is a language based on Latin, it's very close to Italian. One of the vets is from Romania and he said he can understand Italian. Apparently Romanian is the closest living language to Latin. My youngest daughter has just arrived back from a weeks tour in Romania and Transylvania. Most of her travelling in these countries was done by train.
From the pictures it is beautiful, the architecture interesting and the food is tasty.
I asked about money and she told me that she just used her card so has no idea what their currency looks like or what it’s called. So that was easy
People are friendly she tells me but as she can’t speak the language she was on a visual level.
Next trip may be Bosnia.

Yep, Tyrol is stunning.switz is lovely with the mountain scenary but we stayed in italy on the so called forgotton lake on a road trip . Not garda just too commercialised and a rip off for food and drink nor como similar but not as bad .Lake maggiore near the swizz border was one of the most pretty areas ive been to in europe. For a few days at that time of year late june early july the area is uncrowded except at weekends with loads to do and see plus the hotels all bedecked in flowers are first class in whatever price range . Everywhere the folk are welcoming. We then crossed back through swizz on to the black forest which was dissapointing in comparison having read and heard so much about the area .Stayed in a place called stressa on the lake and have to say it got rid of the stress of farming for a few days. We like to visit different places usually for 2-3 days then move on (so much to see so little time to do ) but this is one of the few I would happily go back to even next year
I did that ferry trip in 1993 with my new wife on a road trip to Andorra via the mountains. We spent our first wedding anniversary in the Parador of Olite.
Then we did it three times with kids in toe in the late 90s visiting the coast west of Santander. One trip we actually bumped in the BBC Holiday programme filming and we were the only british they could find to talk to so they followed us around for a bit and offered to buy us a meal on the ferry in the posh restaurant so they could film us there.
I can now drive there in 5 hours and we go whenever we can.. If you ask at a Parador they will give you a "passport" and you can get it stamped at each one you stay at. I would love to visit them all. I am currently at about 20 or so.
Another thing about the Paradors they have great prices out of season so suit a tight fisted farmers calendar.
Missed that one but maybe next time. So much to see and do in northern France that we ran out of time for any holiday.
The worst bit of that trip is getting around Bordeaux. Hit it at the wrong time and it has, outside of Paris and possibly Rouen, the worst traffic I have encountered in France.ah right ho, San Sebastián 5 hrs. Thé bit accros thé mountains must be slow
Transylvania is lovely and bit off the main tourist trail.

A friend and I were riding down to N Spain from St Malo, avoiding Motorways and had planned on crossing the Gironde on the ferry near Royan. It was closed! So a quick reroute, and we were heading for Bordeaux......The worst bit of that trip is getting around Bordeaux.
