Unions Are Back - Good News.

It’s been a remarkable couple of years on the organised labour movement front.
Mick Lynch, personified what united, well led, strategically thinking unions can achieve for their members and society on the whole.
Set against decades of the decline of the middle classes, in favour of scandalous enrichment of the very few at the top of the political and corporate establishment.
Joe Biden’s presidency, apart from being a bullwark against Russian aggression and imperialism, has also been the most labour movement friendly administration since the seventies.
Hopefully, the organised labour movements the world over, go on from here to strengthen their positions, and wrest proper decent reallocation of wealth from the top 3% to the masses who actually generate that wealth in the first instance.
Robert Reich, sums it up nicely in this article.

Isn't there anything interesting happening in the ROI that you can tell us about... :)

If you think wealth should be "reallocated" why not set an example and make a contribution by reallocating your own?

Unions have their place, they are quite good at stopping companies bringing in useless management who change everything, leave staff considerably worse off, then take the bonus and p*ss off before management realise, they've fecked the company too.
Lots of downsides to them as well, they support the broken arses and ignore members who are actually productive and are very inflexible even if some things management offers improve their employees' situations.

Overall not a big fan but wouldn't want to see them go completely.

Obviously the wrong place to try and gain supporters for them . :ROFLMAO:

We never did allow big business and corporate pin stripes, to crush unionisation. Unions not considered a big bad wolf here. Social democracy has many societal benefits. The labour movement was central to the 1916 rising, when we struck for freedom. We are forever grateful.
Next question?…

On a similar note, it’s equally gratifying to observe the reemergence of the sixties type students union protests. All across America now, students are highlighting the desperate cause of the people of Palestine, and by extension the war crimes being committed daily by Israel.
The world can and will be a better place, when not if, the labour unions and student unions get that sixties fervour back in their bellies.

Just noticed this... hmm, a bit of an edited history there, but I asked if there is anything interesting happening (present tense) in the ROI, not for anything that may have been interesting in the past. (y)

So I'll stick with the first question... is there?

Actually not a lot interesting in the political or social context. It’s rather bland and boring to be honest. I found the Haughy era to be quite riveting. Twists and turns every week. Competence of which he was extremely capable, followed and eventually overwhelmed by intrigue, corruption and incompetence. Then there was Bertie. Bless him, but it all got too much for the lad from Drumcondra.
Since then, it’s been hum drum, adequately competent and straight.
Thankfully the neighbours provide 24/7 Dads Army type entertainment. Watching it all unfold, is an eclectic mix of comedy, drama, tragedy and bemusement. Parallels between the UK, the Tory Party in particular and the fall of Rome are striking.

We agree about Haughy, a political genius but seemingly without morals or common sense.

As for the rest, hmm... you sure there is nothing, absolutely nothing that's newsworthy from the ROI?

If you have an insight let me know. And no, I don’t think there is anything “interesting”, behind Veradker‘s resignation.
His replacement…not a scintilla of personality or substance about him. Wouldn’t appoint him parish council chairman. But hey, maybe he will be ok…!
