The farm shop and cafe reopened yesterday after the devastating fire in the main house. Bit of a panic on after torrential rain on Wednesday night so came up with a rather agricultural solution by Thursday night

Not today, but lately-ish! I remember my Dad and another farmer, Tommy, chatting long ago. Tommy was of the opinion put money into accessing land, farm roads. Dad built a shed. I think Tommy was right tbh ✅ Both the shed my Dad built and that of another of their friends got limited use and are now in disrepair, while the roads are well bedded in by now 😄 I'd like a good shed but I need roads, so I'm building roads! In some places they're just mud tracks, humps and tussock pulled out and levelled for a smoother quad track, other places I'm removing obstacles like cutting the tops off bedrock in old cart paths, and then brand new roads like below. Gradually I hope to put terram and stone the quad tracks too.

Funny how a decent farm roadway makes you feel like a rich man

Not the best photo but nice strong heifer calf for the Riggit Galloway but 1 left to calve

If nothing else the rain's making the trees and hedges even more lush this year. Bull still for sale if you know anyone who might be interested

Tense moment this afternoon checking the yearlings down at Iken had stayed in their field now right next to the bull and a good test of the dykes

Was all set for some pub grub today, but as every livestock farmer knows, nothing ever goes to plan 🙄 Dead ewe for no apparent reason. 3 weeks lambed, so enlisted the kids to catch some orphans 😕

That's me in the background getting mad at my bolshy ewe in the adopter. What a cantankerous fecker she is 🫣
Sunday lunch was downgraded to KFC, but it was a good one, and they didn't balls the order up for once 🙂
