On the menu bar shown at the top of the box that you write the post in , click on the 'insert image' icon /choice then open a file you might have the photo saved in and drag it to that box like this ...

or just open the file you have the photo in and just drag it into the posting box .
That's on Windows 11 and a google browser .
Thanks @Bury the Trash, it works by clicking the reply button, I'm using my desktop now (Windows 10, with Classic Shell added to make it look like Windows 7). My mistake was that I was highlighting a some of the text on a post and couldn't see how to add the picture. I also use an Android tablet, I'll try it on that.
