So We're about there with the final drawings just little bit of work left on the upstack mounts and rear steps for accessing the broadcaster but the fundamentals are there and bits are arriving from all over the place and metal is being cut so we up and running. but as promised here is a few drawings of what it will look like. We're all quite pleased with how its looking and the design has evolved and if anything thing the Christmas break was a good thing to just have a few days away from it to rethink a few things rather than just crack on.

Fingers crossed it looks as good in the flesh at the end!

That is a nice looking tool! A couple of observations; will it sit folded up without all the weight sat on one disc unit for example? My rabe short disc is a monkey for this-you have to store it unfolded when on concrete. The lower links look a little lightweight compared to the rest of the drill 🤷‍♂️ could they have a support between them? Have you got a close up of the coulter? Or is it an off the shelf one?

That was one of our main requirements that we could take of the tractor folded otherwise it takes up too much room in the shed and we can't afford a bigger shed!! There is a foot that comes out of the frame so no weight is resting on the discs when you take it off folded is the plan.

The lower links are Cat3 and when you zoom in on the model built like a tank with 20mm plate laminated etc but as you say don't look as impressive on the over all model.

The Coulter bottoms are Std Bourgault VOS Grain and fert 4' boots, We're making up the legs and Rubber block mounts that wrap round the box frame.

Awesome 👌 what do you reckon it will stand you at money wise? Not without your time obviously; I’m well aware how long even my simple drill took!

This is one of those comments that start Well.
The guttlers stand me to 2200. The coulters bottoms stand me to 5000 ish. The up stacks, electrics, broadcaster, following harrow tines and holders have been robbed off the old one which will be sold as a bare cultivator but stood me to 8k in 2006. The discs on the front with mounts and the coulter mounts will stand me to 6000. The frame painted and assembled, marker arms etc, design support from Agriweld (Thank you Dean and Matt) 30000. Then to finish off they’ll be 200m of coulter hose as going to all new not trying to reuse some of the old and new marker discs and bearing for both the markers and pen. So I would suggest 45k all in.

Now people will shoot me down saying I could get a weaving for that or possibly a simtech which are similar ish but actually are nothing like what we are producing when you get into it and infact some of the parts are from weaving who have been a big help, thank you., that this will have bugger all resale value which they are probably right but I’m not building it to sell it, I’m building it to use it for the foreseeable future. They could also say who will look after it if it breaks and what if it doesn’t work, well in a previous life a made a few these types of thing none quite a wild as this mind you including the last one and I’ve had 17yrs experience with it and in the design process through contacts made in my previous life I have had no end of help, advice / bored the pants off some of the industries leading experts and a big thank you to them. So one way and another I hope we have those 2 scenarios covered.

So I suppose the final question would be if such a machine could be bought in the branded market what would it cost which basically it can’t to anything like this spec excluding the front tank which is off the shelf twin outlet Horsch. I would suggest in the region of £80/90,000. I think that is fair

Thanks for the honesty. You forgot to mention the pride in establishing a crop using something that you’ve designed from the ground up rather than something bought from a dealers yard along with the enjoyment you’ve no doubt had/having along the way! For me I enjoy the learning process and also being able to ‘tick stuff off’ in your mind rather than always wondering ‘what if’!

And hopefully the saving in ££ is that something extra that I bring to the business.

I like everything about it Alistair however I'm surprised you are bothering with markers just something to bend in these times of satellite steering.
They're on so if we loose signal we can keep going to cover for sods law!! but otherwise are surplus to requirements a sort of insurance policy on the GPS Steering so hopefully will never be needed. The Pre Emergence Markers are on a separate spool to the markers commoned into the front linkage up and down spool to act as a guide to the roller man and sprayer as to where to turn in although both on GPS so will be used

So alittle update the guttler rollers are cutdown and restrung on the axles, the coulters have arrived in that black parcel a lot of coulters and money in one very small heavy parcel. Dropped off various parts off for offering up. So it’s finally happening!

Progress is coming on the main frame is welded up and the wings have been offered up to the centre frame. its all the small bits and pieces and then paint and the assembly starts but we are getting there. After a trip to Yams the last few bits and pieces have been rounded up.

The old tine drill frame as a cultivator and bits and pieces we don't need for this build were sold this week at york machinery sale to bolster the budget so we are committed well and truly. If we need to do any spring drilling we can use the GD disc coulter bar so we have the capability if need be until the tined coulter bar is complete.

Where did you source your distribution head from? Rough cost? Mine came with the front tank but I’m after another for another project…
