Right, recently had a full MOT at the drs, have been feeling a bit shabby/tired and sore recently. Full disclosure, I'm a big unit always have been, never particularly overweight just a big bloke, 6ft4" been 18-19st since I was about 18. Never a marathon runner type but fit for physical work. I'm now in my mid 40s and have put a bit of weight on since I last weighed myself and got a fright at the drs ! About 5 years ago I lost a couple of stone and was just under 17st and felt great...but that was more down to having 2 small children who didn't sleep and never really eating properly! Blood pressure is fine, and other tests fine too, just need to lose a bit of weight. Anyone got any good advice. I'll give up bread as I'm eating too much of that. Gyms and swimming pools are out of the question as I live miles away from the nearest one and I hate swimming ! Can't really do jogging either as I have got a bad knee. Any advice for someone who likes their food and a odd glass of wine would be good !

If it's just weight that's the issue then the honest answer is just to eat less. Train yourself to eat less so it isn't a conscious thought process and the job is done for life. You can run and weight lift and all that sort of stuff but if You look at the calories burnt compared to what's going in you'll see that something will have to give.

Proven weight loss involves cutting out the carbs. I went for it and lost 4 1/2 stone in 3 months. My friends freaked out and thought I'd got cancer! Put back on a stone or two, and eat occasional bread and spuds and never felt better. Never been near a gym in my life after leaving school.
This , 3 years cycling never lost a pound ,then cut out carbs and lost 3 stone

Breakfast, 3 small good quality butchers sausage, 2 large eggs, 1 tomatoe, and 1 small slice of brown bread toasted, tea without milk or sugar, mid morning snack, peanuts and coffee, dinner time, cold roast beef or pulled pork, cut into cubes, 5 small tomatoes, spring onions, and grapes,
Evening meal pork chop or steak, cauliflower, broccoli, carrot or Brussels, few nuts and coffee, tomorrow repeat,
When out of cold meat,
Roast the beef or pork have full roast Evening meal without the potatoes and Yorkshire pudding to get new supply of meat.

The fat is good fat in sausage, the rest is high protein or belly fill, body will burn fat to digest the protein, weight will drop off you, once at right weight, add potatoes to maintain correct weight,

Snack on fruit instead of biscuits etc and dont go to bed on big meals ie have your tea before 6.30pm . Dont drink fizzy drinks either.

Download the NHS App for weight loss. I started about 10 days ago as my bmi has recently gone into overweight and I hit 12 stone. Heaviest I have ever been. You just record your calorie intake diary and it gives you a targeted weight loss over 12 weeks. I think we eat and drink more calories then we realise. The only thing I have really cut back on is tea biscuits and smaller portions. I have been a bit more conscious of how many calories are in things. Especially snacks. Some of the biscuits I was eating were 185 calories each. I would eat 3 or 4. Now just 1 and not as often.Lost 5lb in 10 days so far.
Female and forties for context. Good luck.

Weight loss or gain is a hormonal issue (insulin), not related to calories (in and out), that is the idea that everyone has followed since the 70's, it had continued not to work and the answer is always, its because the person didn't follow the diet properly (victim blaming). Eating less sugar/carbs gives a reduced insulin response and weight control.

Weight loss is definitely related to calorie intake. No fat people came out of Belsen. Insulin is related to it but if you regard hunger as a friend you will lose weight.
Trying to burn it off through exercise will not work although you will get fitter
