How much would it cost to lay something down on a field to make it accessible for a non 4x4 vehicle?

From reading around on this forum I came to be aware you are not even allowed to lay a track on your own land without planning permission and besides it would probably be costly - not a farmer just want access with a normal van through a field used for 'recreation'.

Would the plastic mesh stuff do the job that is used at festivals? Any limitations to that? Can it also manage for driving up gently sloped land? I would only be getting probably 1-5 acres for my budget so cost to lay from one end to another in a line for say 5 acres - not sure how many meters that would be?

The 8 x 4 weldmesh sheets they use on building sites to reinforce concrete are handy for the job. Just cut the grass really short then lay weldmesh on track you want to create. Join weldmesh together with hosepipe in 6 inch pieces with jubilee clips. Allow grass to form a mat through the mesh and you should end up with a hidden trackway suitable for light vehicles.

If you want to buy mesh you won't have enough left to buy those trees😉
