Doesn't make it alright

This has been argued to death in the Courts... as things stand if someone states something as honest belief it may still be untrue; but it is only a lie if deceit is intended.

However the test can be subjective on the basis that an average person can be expected to make a reasonable and rational judgement about or an effort to establish the fact of what he is saying.

Obviously the more technical or specialist the subject and the speaker's claims to be expert, the higher the standard expected of him.

On the other side, believing something self-evidently does not in and of itself make the thing true, and believing when it is manifestly wrong or hard evidence has been adduced to disprove it is seen as perverse; refuting plain fact is also perverse.
Yes!
So in the context of people posting on a forum it's very hard to justify saying someone is lying as opposed to saying something you don't agree is true

perhaps that generally accepted credible source is wrong
No.

The truth , in many cases, being what the majority think rather than anything more fundamental
No.

You are both arguing the toss for the sake of it. Many, probably most things we discuss are readily verifiable. We have access to independently verified stat's, we can watch actual interviews in which people say things and we can post them, we find and link to virtually anything ever written.

We are in an age when any other than the greatest conspiracy theorists can satisfy any reasonable enquiry very easily, if they choose to do so. (y)

We are "arguing for the sake of it", whereas you are arguing for??? Some noble cause?

I am not and have not been arguing, merely presenting the demonstrable facts - odd that you agree with these when they suit you, but do not do so when they don't.

"Demonstrable facts" from a "generally accepted source"?
So lets see ...the source is "generally accepted" and this is good enough, ok! But don't see how this deviates much from what i said about "the truth often being what the majority believe"

Still waiting as to what cause you are arguing for?
Mine being "the toss" in your view.

Self recognition is a commendable thing, I applaud you. (y)

You confuse “facts” with what you think is right. Those two things are completely different. Using internet links to people who have the same view as you is no way to establish “facts”. It is in fact a method of reinforcing your own prejudice.

We should be all inclusive and embrace the gay community, after all this could result in widening the circle of our friends.
No, we should ignore the fact that they are gay, just as we do a heterosexual, and judge them on their character and behavior.
There are good and bad in all walks of life and I will treat people according to that, not their creed, colour or sexual orientation with nobody getting special treatment.

Apologies for the over-sensitive amongst you.
Auto-correct changed supercilious to supersillyarse.
And bespeckled wasn't meant in the lesser spotted sense but should be spectacled in the clueness nerd sense.
