Why haven’t you got a washline and jetters?
It’s the cheapest thing to set up on any parlour,just a pipe back to the wash trough and six jetters.

There's a variety of reasons.
Years ago I split the milk line with a butterfly tap and had pipework and jetting heads fitted to the milk line, but took longer to wash than just unplugging the clusters and taking them to the dairy, and also had to carry hot water to to the parlour to wash the outside of the clusters and pipes, where as you just give them a quick brush whilst their in the washtub. Also it's nearly 90ft from one end of the parlour to the dairy the way the pipe goes, so with an extra wash line, there would be even more heat loss from the hot wash in winter
Also when we get cold weather in winter, the clusters get kept in the dairy untill just before we start milking, nothing is frozen and can milk at -16 without having to have space heaters running to thaw the place out. (When we get freezing weather the parlour is kept dry, in all senses, much safer for man and animal)
We do all the fertility work, A'i, freeze branding etc in the parlour, so it's better not to have the clusters there at that time.

What grazing covers are you having to cope with. When do you hope to have a large enough area grazed to start second round.

I probably have to remain of first round for another 7-10 days.

4 days of 2nd round left here, mowed a good few acres on Tuesday to reset big covers on platform
Going to be tight until aftermaths are ready
Consequence of housed by night too often

It's less hassle just to carry the clusters the 30ft to the dairy.

Being 1200ft up a hill when we get cold weather, can be below 0⁰c day and night for weeks on end. Parlour is kept clean with a yard brush. But given a thorough clean once the temps get above 0⁰c.

I inherited a fair bit of debt after my father passed away, so once that's paid off, we shall revaluate, depends what my daughter wants to do. I'll be closer to 55 by then, I really don't fancy taking a big loan out at that age to upgrade, especially the way the Welsh assembly are doing their best to ruin Welsh ag

Other grazing stuff like water troughs, water pipe and fittings might be worth a look

We’ve had 28 swans and around 30 geese here since January, given up chasing them off now. They come every year so just let them get on with it now

l think the question should be, how long is the FBT, and will it be renewed, l think he has said, his l/lords are old, and 1 departed ?

he will be very lucky to get it renewed, hope he does, but.

wouldn't want to be spending to much, that isn't removable at end of tenancy.

Try 1000 pinkfoots, will clear a field of grass if they settle down for the night
