A strange Spring?

Some spring barley fields now have a perfect map of bad drainage.

looking across our valley, you can pick out where the drains are, the corns greener.

here at home, 1 field drains are very evident, there's a couple of big drains, running a lot of water, grass above them, is a darker green, and 6 ins taller. They reckon flowing water is warmer, so is that why ?

I could see where I'd run out of fert on wheat (N2, 2 weeks ago), so it's definitely taking it in.
Problem being theres been very little sunshine over the last few months, and theres diddly squat showing in the 10 day forecast.
It seems stuck on '99%', very similar to the shite spring of 2013

Same here, 20 acre block that I’ve not put fert on as it had 10 acre of lakes, can see to a line where I stopped as I didn’t fancy sinking out of sight

I've edited to clarify that it's 99% cloud cover for the next 10 days, and not 99% sunshine. It's pretty Baltic, online app says both soil and air temperature are at 6 degrees, hardly conducive to lush growth. Thankfully the OSR is a late variety thats only just coming into flower. I won't be spraying for pollen beetle, as frankly theres bugger all else flying around to pollinate the crop and it's beetle or nothing.

Swallows and House Martins normally arrive around the 15th (thought I saw 1 over the Tweed earlier in the week) but this north wind is keeping them away a bit longer.

Lots of our fields are like that, the drains are very obvious, some are even ones that I didn't know existed!

Every tree root area in my fields are 5 shades greener than the surrounding field.
Whether the roots are loosening the soil or just reducing the sheer amount of water in the ground, I have no idea.
The drier fields got digestate and look way better than those that didn't, but is that just because they are drier?
Crop walking is a total emotional rollercoaster at the moment.

Mycorrhiza.. We notice it in our parkland fields, very noticeable better growth near trees.

The amount of silt I've seen running down my drains, I'm not surprised.
