A petition worth signing I think.

Any notable organisations missing?;

I think farmers need to support those that are supporting them.

And maybe drop those that are not.

I believe the technical phrase is 'p!ssing in the wind'.
100,000 farmers.
10 retailers
70 million consumers.
All the time the food chain has that 'egg timer' structure, it's utterly pointless asking for 'fairness'.
Guy double-barreled is a clever chap, he must know that.

There’s nothing like a positive mental attitude. 😁

I am positive. Positive that he's wasting his time on this one. Everyone from the NFU to Sustain does these periodic 'it's not fair' campaigns. The cartel, quite rightly, just shrug their shoulders and carry on.

If he really thinks there's mileage in trying to change the cartel, Guy should support that 'Buy British button' thing the MP has put forward. At least it's a specific yes/no thing, rather than woolly requests.

Ultimately though he should be putting forward measures to support diversity in the food chain. With all his experience he will have a long list.

I actually thought that he might be you. 🤣

What makes you think that he doesn’t?

Well if he does it would have been logical to include it in that wish list.

I can't believe that those organisations would be small minded enough not to be supporting the MP with his proposal simply because he's a Conservative.

Riverford's Fair to Farmers Charter

We're asking all supermarkets to commit to these 5 sourcing principles.

Almost half (49%) of British fruit and veg farmers fear they will go out of business within the next 12 months. 75% report that supermarket behaviour is a leading factor.*
If all supermarkets committed to these principles, the lives of farmers would be transformed - giving them stability, a reliable income, and protecting the future of British food and farming for the long term.

The cartel want those 49% gone. For the same reason they want the dairy, beef and lamb producers gone. Having to deal with lots of farmers is like herding cats. They want to get all sectors where they have got pigs and poultry. A small and still shrinking handful of producers, vertically integrated in all but name.

Guy is a clever chap. Surely he understands that ?

No doubt this is aimed far more at the general public than it is at the supermarkets. Most people still don’t understand that we don’t set our own prices.

Yeah you're probably right. Don't bother. Just make snide comments on here instead.

No snide comments from me. Rather, evidence based input.

Vicki Hird has been at Sustain since the dawn of time. If she has put their name to one such petition, she has put it to a hundred. What have they achieved ? The square root of sweet fa. Cartels don't do 'fair'. Why would they ?

We have to reintroduce diversity to the food chain. There are posters on this thread who know Guy, they should ask him for his thoughts on how we do that. Because that's the way forward.

Anyone who knows him ask him why he thought virtue signalling the fact that he'd married an Indian was a good thing.

But from small acorns etc.

I think it could be an effective way of poking Coffey and Sunak off their perches.
They have said they support such ideas. Lets see if they do.
Of course they won't and they can then be held to account.

That has been the softly softly approach by all of the signatories to this petition for the last 30 years. What has it achieved ?
