Soil temp is 6 degrees

Is it to cold to put spring wheat in still? Soil conditions are pretty good so thinking leave till next week for a few more drying days then put the stuff in. Going in direct no till fashion and then about 80kg/ha N and 25kg so3 straight away.

I am thinking about beans, no till, soil was 8c last night and 3c this morning at 80mm deep (average 6c ?).
Is that too cold ?
I would have thought it was warm enough for wheat though.

No

Go now and get a few showers on it to weather any slots, or spread a bit of compost post drill?

As long as they remain drying days and not showers of rain days you will be ok !!!!

Was very tempted to put my SW this wk as was worried that simon has been saying we are in for a damp early April, but seemed to say today that the south will be ok'ish now, so in two minds(again:rolleyes:)

Agree, S Barley and S Beans either drilled into ploughed/powerharrowed land or with a DTS into stubble/CC have all chitted nicely 10 days after drilling, soil doesnt feel that cold.

How have you demonstrations gone? I was surprised at how quickly the seed chitted. Soil felt cold when it was originally pulled up but soon warms up in the sun and warm air I suppose.

DTS demo went very well, it did a very good job, waiting to see what the crop looks like through to harvest before we make anymore decisions on what to buy. Having had the DTS demo theres no way we would pull or lift a Mzuri. Going to look at a couple of other DTS users farms and there crops to help our decision as well.

A long time ago but did you go for a DTS?
I appreciate lots can have happened in that time as regards farm cropping ,policies and our own circumstances.

Yes we did go for a 3m DTS, used it for 4 years, odd mistake made along the learning curve of strip till but overall pretty positive. Got made redundant from that job as the farm was contracted out due to a farm owner passing away suddenly, all the machinery was sold and a manager no longer needed. So I now work elsewhere.
