Dropped most of 1st cut ground Friday, had no slurry or fert, was cut early October so lot of winter growth that I wanted off before fert/slurry this spring. Hoping to have sheets on this evening as bit of rain forecast tomorrow, can’t believe how the ground has dried!

TBH, I've never made silage that was disappointing because of too little sugar. Usually either too much water or too much stem, or both, or too much nitrogen (or rarely, too little).

we are posting off some grass samples tomorrow, will be interesting to see what the analysis comes back like.

One would assume a lot of nutrients have leached out, just don't know.

we will cut 3/4 acres this week, one half of the field dry, the other a pond, just to make sure the baler is working ok, W/wold cover crop, between maize.

son's on call for contractor, who said he might cut 20 acres, to feed now, or 100+ if it goes all right. Did offer him some decent pit silage, but he prefers to buy our 2nd cut l think.

None, was a foot high in February and too wet to put slurry/fert on. Had 50m3 of slurry last autumn after 5th cut. Got 50m3 and 70kgN going on tomorrow

None, was a foot high in February and too wet to put slurry/fert on. Had 50m3 of slurry last autumn after 5th cut. Got 50m3 and 70kgN going on tomorrow

Ah. Well that explains the protein then.
