All things Dairy

Well that didn't go to.quite to plan 🙈
Milkers going out this evening, I thought with my new phone I'd film a nice clip to put on insta of the cows out for the first time this year.
Cows had to exit the yard into the road and go right to get to the field, they have been going left all winter to the shed. So I thought I'd be clever and park the loadall across the road, then I would go with the quad in front to turn them to the field and the daughter would open the gate to let the cows out.
The first 9 galloped along the road like it was the grand national and straight to the field, but unfortunately someone forgot to put Flo the terrier on a chain, she saw the cows going right and ran in front of the rest of the cows and turned them back, as she knew the cows were going the wrong way they needed to go left to the shed !
It then turned into a shouting match between me and my daughter to get the terrier out of the way, with the terrier trying to bring the cows back to the yard, and the sheep dog trying to get them out .
They then managed to squeeze past the loadall back to the shed, unfortunately the gate for the heifer/calf shed was open and they went in there. OMFG what a mess, bags of feed, lime straw and half a bale of hay strewn across the 60x70 shed🙈.
So repositioned the loadall so we could get the cows back into the road and going the right way.
By this time the cows, me, daughter, the wife and the dog were in a bit of a frenzy every one shouting and swearing arms waving etc, but at least the cows were going the right way. But then a fairly new highly polished black Audi came from nowhere, and was sitting in the middle of the road between the cows and the field, I can't remember if I said sh1t or FFS first, then I was gesturing for him to move his precious motor out of the way. He sat there like a rabbit in the beams of a headlight and just sat there frozen to the spot. Luckily the cows turned around and back to.the calf.shed. so moved the loadall got the tourist out of the way, I dread to think of the conversation he will have with his partner later on tonight. Luckily this time the cows went straight to the field.
So unfortunately no nice video. But here is a pic I took 20 minutes later after they stopped galloping around.
I'm off for a large rum and coke possibly two or maybe three or four and ponder on my decision to be a dairy farmer !
At least their finally out !

jersey calved, b-all milk, couldn't quite work out why.

week later, getting the cows in, jer in corner, on her own............... pulled a big bb out of her.

don't often get it wrong, but another cow must have had a twin, she stole it, blood etc all around her back end, certainly fooled us, milking quite well now.

bloody downpour again today, just drying out nicely, back to square one, again.

Same here.
I thought last yr was tough enough but this yr is far far worse.
struggling to keep, cows out let alone any field work.
doesn’t look like much of any first cut will be made off the platform.
Consequently growth is very slow on white undergrazed saturated residuals.
it’s bloody grim.

Was trying that getting out of bed and doing something thing as I couldn’t sleep.
it didn’t really work.

rubbish isn’t it,just when you think it’s starting to dry you get another 1/2hr deluge chucked our way! Abundance of grass on grazing fields but it’s just led in water, going to try and knock some off for silage at the end of the week on fields destined for maize, but not sure how it’s going to go.🤞🏻

Just try and not take it personally and remember lots of us are in the sh!t too, iv never had to sell machinery before to control cash flow, but this year is looking grim, output on the floor, bills still arriving & money is getting expensive to borrow. Don’t feel you have done anything wrong it’s just a barsteward of a growing season.

Yeap. The budget done for the bank is a fantastic work of pure fiction now. I thought it was conservative at the time ☹️
