They were a quid a kilo for bloody years so were cattle , looking back we were absolute mugs keeping farming through that long period.
Sub was good or a lot more would have gone.

The week that came in it was £17 head and fat cattle dropped …. You got it £17 head .
I claimed blue and red and slaughter and got it all on historic some sold on green and would boast there calves made more , they lost out big time.
Wasn’t there extensification payment as well ? for those in a position to claim it

I dont know i wasnt , there was arable aid you could grow arable silage and get a payment but it was needed

1999 I think it was was we had 500 mule gimmer lambs averaged was gonna say 22 but I think it was £28.....had quite a few £17
My memory is a bit hazy but I know someone who bought a fair bit of land off the back of that

I used to sell 3 crop mule ewes was getting around £75 and they plummeted to £25 , misery that …..was .
Yep always paid to claim
we claimed the first payment then sold as soon as they were out of retention, got extensification as well
