I never lived in Sudan just went for a week or ten days a month to check up on my staff. The white ones had no problems but the Africans found it hard. My wife never had a problem when she came with me especially as she was a Vet and the person we reported to with the farms was a Coptic Christian woman who also was a vet. On the farms we had Phillipinos and Nepalese they had two year contracts at the start their passports were taken and returned after two years. My wifes aunt and uncle moved to Dubai in the seventies from Kenya. He set up Emirates Airline and she was a teacher. They did very well they set up schools educating the childrren of the Indian middle classes. However not all are equal and it’s pretty rough for those at the bottom who these days tend to mainly come from Pakistan. Qatar and Saudi are recruiting a lot of Kenyans these days. If you are poor these places must be dreadful.
