Hall effect water flow sensors

A tricky question for the real experts
I have a water recirculation system in my house with an American Leridian controller
This uses a flow sensor in thew cold water flow to detect when cold water enters the tank , when hot water is drawn, turns the recirculating pump on.
It appears the current YF B5 flow sensor has failed for unknown reasons
To replace this sensor means either getting one from the States or buying one locally which has the benefit of time and not being ripped off by Customs
The Americans say I need a 3/4BSP flow sensor which is rated at 3.5volts
However all the 3/4 sensors I can find are either not quoted or rated 5-15 volts
Would this be any issue since I believe the voltage is supplied by the controller.

3.5 V may not be enough to drive the 5V sensor, but if they are cheap enough it may be worth a try. Quite a bit of kit will work below rated voltage, but how far below you just have to experiment.
