He's a doctor, he's doing this out of principle as he's standing down at the election. This isn't about politics it's about shining a light on the scandalous attempts to break our NHS to justify privatising it.
It's baffling though, there are more than enough safe, responsible stalkers to control the numbers and venison is healthy, delicious and relatively affordable. How does it get to this???
Yep, loads of experienced, reliable and trustworthy stalkers out there. If any of you guys need a hand at any point let me know. I've been working abroad for the last few years. I'll be returning to the UK this summer but our active permissions are now very far from my Middlesex base. Would be...
I'm available!
Joking aside. It's an incredible part of the world to stalk. We've been involved in culls where neighbouring fields in 'safe zones' where landowners didn't allow shooting were covered in deer. I can see why they are suggesting drastic action.
The invase Muntjac deer is causing the most devastation to our ancient woodlands. Given their ludicrous birthrate (higher than 1 per year, they don't have a birthing season), the numbers of lynx required to get on top of these critters would be extraordinary. I think my .223 is perhaps more...
Given the high interest in deer stalking it is simply illogical that herds get to that volume. That's prime meat running across the road, better in our bellies than releasing wolves into heavy populated lowlands.
Part of the issue is that a fair few people in the shooting industry are out for...
No it's not, a significant and growing amount of pur electricity is produced by renewables. The explosion in off shore wind farming is largely responsible. It is entirely conceivable that within the next couple of decades the UK will be powered with renewable electricity. waiting until then to...
Lots of vague promises with no substance. He can only get away with that for so long otherwise he will be found out. I thought it looked like the weight of expectation was starting to worry him. I really hope there is a plan in place.
Because it will mean reduced access to our largest export market. Whether that is a price worth paying or not (I happen to think not) is incedental to the OPs desire to wish everyone good luck ahead of hard times.
I assume the government will grandfather the new EU-Mercosur FTA. They will need to negotiate their own TRQs (quotas) for various meat categories which will need to be more generous than our current percentage of the EU total import quota.
I do worry about the ability of UK farmers with higher...
Yes it is clear that the US will play hardball from a position of power on hormone fed beef, chlorinated chicken and GM crops. Boris is so reliant on that trade deal I fear he will cave immediately.
I really don't think we should go after Greta Thunburgh. She knows her own mind and it is condescending to assume that because she is a girl of 17 she is being used. There is a climate emergency and even if we don't agree with everything she says a lot of it is spot on and the spotlight she...
I think the buy local and buy 'natural' (for want of a better word) are really sound arguments. Lamb and beef produced here from majority grass fed stock produce significantly less emmissions than high intensity grain fed beef etc.
I do think veganuary shouldn't be a focus, this is on the whole...
What an odd thread. The OP is clearly worried about the future of farming in the rest of the UK, even though he is protected as he lives in Scotland, and all he gets is vitriol.
I assume this is due to the obvious Brexit angle.
Whichever way you voted you should be supportive of a genuine...
My parents sold up before retirement age. My dad was already working elsewhere to pay the bills and that was more profitable. My mum ran the farm but it was getting a bit much for fairly scant reward. I miss the land but not the pressure it put on them.
Exactly. The UK was the biggest supporter of the Mercosur agreement, France and other agri protectionist actually watered this down. We would be more not less liberal.
Yes that is because 'no deal' means exactly that we haven't agreed a way to grandfather existing third country agreements and agree a new arrangement with the EU. It is the option that we know exactly what it means. We will fall back on to WTO terms, this does mean extra tariffs, this is certain.
