I've no wish to retire, but can afford to farm on my terms.
I will at some point stop growing veg & supplying the small bale trade.
But will continue at my own pace I've long had ambitions to do a major amount of drystone wall restoration, hedge laying, fitting new gates & drainage & have a...
When I was in my teens lots of the hill farmers with peat soils used to have tractor mounted diggers with a seat. Some used to have two men on the job, one driving one digging.
Its not the age its the condition. I need (well would prefer to have) £1,000 worth of dental work & may need some laser eye treatment in the future due to glocoma.
I'm not quite there, but like you single & no kids. I do have two nephews & a niece 15, 7 & 9 they make a big difference & keep...
I didn't really notice till I made a call to local owner driver to do a job, he was too behind to come due to the wet summer last year.
Will a lot have been exported they just seem to have disappeared, little 360's on trailers everywhere.

If that was a tractor with a loader would be more than that.
So looks cheap to me (for contractor who wants one, not a farmer like me)
The mini diggers transported by truck or on farm work tractor drawn...
A dead deer near the town centre yesterday. People said it was a roe deer, perhaps a red deer calf lots of red deer about locally. My farm cleared out by poachers over winter, thankfully.
Always had plenty here too, mixed farming area.
You would think badgers & foxes would thin out the leverats, even I can catch a young leverat. Take no pleasure in it but killed lots over the years.
Locally some good ones but a lot of poor ones.
My Autumn sown ones poor, but glad of some winter barley to test the combine on. Late Feb sown I might have some of the best crops in the country.
Lots of lambs to sell, grass growing so chance of some hay, veg going in well but that is always a...
Its going to be a year of have's & have nots.
I'm lucky but still 10 acre intended for wheat last Autumn, then spring barley this spring still not sown due to blocked drains. Its new land to me, mending the drains & then a mixture of grass reseeds & a small area of stubble turnips.
I say, I'm...
Sorry.
I was quite down last weekend, but now expecting a reasonable harvest, just hope it is good weather in September, we need it. This weeks rain although stopping the veg transplanting has been really good for local cereals.
Dialect issues for me, what does Northeastfarmer mean?
I've got more thistles than normal creeping & Scotch. I thought the poaching had encouraged them.
Just shows.
We have some great really late sown spring barley unrolled. It looked sick last Friday but romping away now. Hopefully roll middle of next week. I've asked the agronomist to come & have a look.
Some light land Feb drilled with winter crops, outstanding maybe some of the best in...
I don't think you can call it 100% without scanning.
Once had one lamb a week after shearing & shearer who was a real sheep man said not this side of Xmas.
