Any suggestions, please?
Nothing fancy, just robust enough to cope with topping paddocks on the grazing platform, pre- and post-grazing.
Realistically, looking at 2nd hand...

RABDF Down to Earth, the regenerative livestock farming event, will be hosted at a housed cow unit for the second year in a row; cows milked 3x per day, I understand it to be "high input, high output".
Not knocking confinement systems, but can this system really be regenerative?
I believe that...
The UK left the EU on 31st Jan 2020.
I voted remain, so can't say how it compares to what I hoped would happen if we left.
However, I'm interested to hear from others, especially from those who voted for Brexit.
- How has it compared with your expectations?
- Are you pleased with the outcome...
Got a kilometer of hedge to put in, to subdivide large grass fields and do boundaries.
How do I keep the weeds down?
Should I use mulch, if so, how much will I need?
I've heard of "mulch mats", do they work? Any better ideas?
Thanks all,
CB
Up early, long drive yesterday so half-way I swung in to a midlands services treat myself to a takeaway coffee.
As I picked up my major chain standard-size latte, I raised an eyebrow as the smiling attendant greeted me with "Anything else? Okay, that'll be just £4.40, please".
Surprised, I...

Disease especially in cocksfoot grasses which have become dominant in our herbal leys.
Can anyone tell me...
What is this?
Can I cure it?
What would you do in this situation?
Thanks
Having a go at fodder beet for first time in my "career"...
South coast, dry sandy free-draining soils. Beet is for grazing store cattle over winter. Have bought a grazing variety.
Any useful advice for a first-time grower?
Thanks in advance 👍
Anyone made one?
Want something light and strong for outwintering/bale grazing. Bale mate do one, c. £300 each.
Thinking 50mm polypipe rings, bolted to metal or plastic uprights...
Thanks
As above, for various groups of cattle:
- Store beef cattle
- In calf heifers
- Dry cows
Diet is any of deferred grazing, baled silage, cover crops, depending on group. No cake fed.
- What's the best (and cheapest?) way to provide minerals?
- Do I even need to?
- Sensible insurance policy...
Thread inspired by another thread which was unhappy with "regenerative agriculture" because it does not have an agreed definition.
So, do we actually know what a farmer is?
New year reminds me that we ought to look after ourselves a bit more...
Anyone found a good dust mask for chucking straw around?
We have a chopper but have to prong it around a bit due to shed shape.
TIA
Was reading a separate TFF thread on the disease outbreak/product recall from Mrs Kirkham, apparently the last Lancashire cheese maker using raw milk.
Lots of people raising risks of life changing and deadly diseases inc. TB.
Which got me thinking...
Who drinks raw milk from their own herd...
So a well known independent foot expert mentioned at our recent Arla meeting that Biotin added to concentrate is good for lameness.
Do others have it added? Does it make a difference?
Thanks,
CB
Discussing whether we'll be told what crops to grow (as per War Ag), or maybe not grow, a question came up...
Has maize been banned anywhere in the UK, e.g. for water pollution reasons?
Or any other crops/reasons, for that matter?
