My dad once dug a fence out of snow in june because sheep were walking over it …… in the 50s .
No!! We sure do miss him. Nothing better when they don’t get on, no good them all being mates and sharing them out.

We had some little Welsh cross ewes at £121 in Melton yesterday. Bigger texel ewes at £168 and £172. Good meat hoggs 64½kg to £199 then some teeth up hoggs 79½kg at £180. 77kg at £172.
Gets like that in thame. Frustrating when you know they're taking the pee

I start sorting my culls into separate fields this next couple of weeks and keep feeding them right through. Hopefully get them away mid july before the glut. Had a right do last year with them for what they were.

How do you manage that with lambs? Just drift them off?
Any 5 crop Suffolks and mule rearing twins marked for cull are in a group being feed and the lambs are on creep. Hope to kill the lot in June.

Yes mark the ewes when they’re in the pens then shed a couple off every night as i go round. Few get marked at clipping as well. Nice to get 100 away early so i dont end up with 200+ culls to deal with at weaning.

I have been organised like this in past but I have lambed on my own for three weeks this year days and nights so it sort of fell apart

1912 it rained all Summer. Wheat sheaves got washed away.
1914-18 prices were strong due to the War.
1920s prices collapsed. Breeding livestock just 25% of what they were worth. Many farmers went bankrupt.
End of the 1930s gradual improvement,due to run up to the second World War.
