<blockquote data-quote="Ruminant Health &amp; Welfare" data-source="post: 9268217" data-attributes="member: 158875"><p>A series of practical advice webinars for show organisers and vets have been organised to help key stakeholders prepare for the risk that notifiable and new and emerging diseases pose to livestock.</p><p></p><p>Maintaining effective biosecurity to protect them has never been more critical, so Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs’ (Defra) free ‘Plan, Prevent and Protect’ webinars have been planned to help those who work with or keep animals learn what they can do to protect their health and welfare from <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/notifiable-diseases-in-animals" target="_blank">notifiable and reportable diseases</a>,</p><p></p><p>Leading policy officials, epidemiologists and veterinary professionals from Defra and the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) will be hosting virtual live webinar events which also offer a chance for attendees to ask questions about the rules, and control measures government may take and biosecurity best practice.</p><p></p><p><strong>Bluetongue for veterinary professionals webinar</strong></p><p>Leading policy officials, epidemiologists and veterinary professionals from Defra and APHA, and entomologists and virologists from The Pirbright Institute will host this webinar, which will include an opportunity for attendees to ask questions, from 6pm to 7:30pm Thursday 25 April 2024</p><p></p><p>The webinar will cover bluetongue virus:</p><p></p><ul> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Transmission cycle</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Pathology and pathogenesis</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Clinical signs including an overview of what was seen in the recent BTV-3 outbreak in The Netherlands</li> <li data-xf-list-type="ul">Control and prevention</li> </ul><p></p><p><strong>Shows and events webinars</strong></p><p>Aimed at organisers of agricultural shows and other events where cattle, sheep, pigs, camelids, poultry, other captive birds and livestock will be present.
