I use Omnia and keep being told about all of the wonderful 'extra' features it can do some of which I use but I refuse point blank to start putting Gross Margins etc in there for that reason.
Wheelings have taken a bit of a hammering on the steepest slopes but hopefully done more good than harm (spring wheat). Didn’t get the barley done in the end.
We have one of these but with DAB - it is good. Get DAB if you’re going to change. It’s worth it but the best thing about this radio is that it reconnects to the Bluetooth when you come back to it, if you hop off the tractor etc unlike the Sony ones we have which only connect automatically on...
Rolling spring wheat at the moment. Got some very thick spring barley at bang on the right timing for rolling - will it help in preventing it going flat?
Never had the chance to roll spring cereals post emergence so a new one for us!
Meadow brome is our biggest issue and has really prospered since reducing cultivations dramatically. NIAB's stand at Groundswell suggested Feb application of BWS to try and catch it but my experiment this year (during a warm spell) showed it was just as ineffective then. The plough has therefore...
Got some September sown wheat which still has not seen a sprayer…. Will get t1 tomorrow and some bws sometime after.
I can see the lack of growth reg everywhere with some very leggy crops, even where establishment was mixed to say the least. I think it has become too easy to stick some...
No T0 on anything this year and it does seem to have done any harm (touches wood). Yes the odd patch of yellow rust (something we wouldn’t normally see at all) but de minimus areas and not anything to worry about. A one off season or a waste of time?
I have a pile of autumn cover crop left over which I am going to stick in next week on areas of failed rape/wheat. Vetches, spring linseed, burseem clover buckwheat and phacelia. Very similar to yours. My only concern is slugs in the following wheat meaning getting it killed plenty early enough...
I have drilled some spring barley in accordance with your thought process re seed rates. Father thinks I’m mad and is worried that it’s going to be flat to the floor! I have some drilled at more conventional rates too so it will be interesting to see the difference.
Incidentally we have seen...
You might find a Kellands/McConnel Agribuggy with fewer hours on but they’re rare and so you’re more likely to find a Househam, Bateman Sands that fits the bill. And you get the benefit of ground clearance which you don’t with the agribuggy. We are on our second Househam. No complaints and...
We have those tyres on a similar blue tractor doing the same jobs. No complaints and would buy again. Only criticism would be that they are not quite as nice on the road.
VF tyres don’t seem to exist for this size when we enquired (18 months or so ago) I presume because of the relatively high...
Worst OSR we've grown in a long time. Flea Beetles were very easy to find grazing until mid-November. Lost 15 - 20% at establishment and they kept nibbling from thereon. If it did get established the incessant wet has hammered it on any heavy ground - where it looked like it might kick on in Jan...
Just goes to show this farming is an art and not a science. I was at 290kg/ha (Lynx also) finishing off yesterday.
Father and I have had a disagreement on spring barley seed rates. As he drives the combine I have pulled them back….
