    Communication let me down

Would this be the Sam Dovey who worked for the NFU around the New Forest? If so, he has a Facebook presence. :)

Hip replacement- anyone had it done?

After becoming slower and having more trouble bending over, I went for a consultation for my hip in November, and they have just sent a date for an op at the end of the month. It only gives me a couple of weeks notice, but having consulted the rest of the family, everyone reckons I should go for...

I know farmers who adopt that attitude too. You hear locals say "Farmer +++++ is a mean b+++++, he won't let me metal detect/shoot/take scrap etc etc (delete as applicable) and is always angry. If you go round there, he tells you to f+++ off in no uncertain terms, I thing he's a psycho". When...

    Best smell of the year

I suddenly had an image of Roland LeBay selling Christine, the '58 Plymouth to her unsuspecting victim with a leering grin: "New car, boy. Best smell in the world.....'cept the smell of p+++y"

    Red sky at night

It was very clear down here near the South Coast. It brought to mind The Day of the Triffids.

The Woke Left Wing Civil Service and Judiciary are Destroying Britain.

I was watching Al Murray on youtube and in one of his rants, he mentioned that the entire empire was maintained/expanded by an army of 100,000. Googling says that it actually averaged about 120,000 regulars through the late 19th century whereas today the Army numbers 110,000, although presumably...

    Best smell of the year

I passed one on the road yesterday and had to slow down and open the car windows to get the full benefit. I like the smell of burnt TVO for similar reasons. We get a strong fishy smell from the meadows after the floods have gone down and the malme has begun to dry out. It always means it has had...

The Woke Left Wing Civil Service and Judiciary are Destroying Britain.

Maybe it is just a sign of getting old, but I increasingly hear my friends saying "I'm glad I was born when I was, because I think we've had the best of it. " I don't think covid helped, because it seems to have caused a social change which has led to more insularity leading to the closure of...

Is your farm clean and tidy?

Just to add that during my last scrap drive, the thing I was most pleased to see the back of was my old PowerArm, which had been sitting in the nettles since the 3 tonner arrived in case I got round to fixing it up. I was glad to see it go and in the end figured that if anyone else can make a...

Is your farm clean and tidy?

My best investment was my 3 ton digger. We do have an awful lot of ditches, having old water meadows, but it is also so handy for tidying up, lifting stuff like dumpy bags and engines, and cleaning out the barns.

Is your farm clean and tidy?

As soon as you make a space though, someone comes along and fills it- as in sister turns up and says "Oh Fred, I see you've cleaned the shed out. (Yes, for my old Land Rovers...) Karen's moving next week and wondered if she could put her sofas somewhere. It won't be for long..." One thing...

Is your farm clean and tidy?

It's like Camp Grenada here- last week it was peeing down with rain, the tracks were ankle deep sludge and I would have put a match to the whole lot and walked away, but now the sun has come out, the trees are in full leaf and it is the most lovely place to be. The sun tidies the place up more...

Is your farm clean and tidy?

For a bit of entertainment, nothing beats coming across the Victorian dump from the farmhouse. I discovered ours when I was putting in a straining post and work stopped immediately, then much of the next week was spent digging up old bottles which were carefully taken to the shed for...

Is your farm clean and tidy?

My house is the other way round, the kitchen is an extension of the yard only warmer while it is tidy from the hall upwards.

Is your farm clean and tidy?

How do arable farmers keep it so tidy when they are off skiing every other week of the winter? I accumulated crap for years so I had plenty of bits for all my planned retirement projects, then as the day draws nearer I realise I'm never going to use it all so I'm getting tougher on throwing it...

    Spot spraying next to watercourse

I have been told off for mentioning thistlex and knapsack sprayers in the same sentence because I can never remember all these brand names. I think the one I used to use was Grazon which was approved for hand-held.

Well, Hampshire has an average of around 12 murders per annum but is well down the list compared to other counties. Midsomer-shire has had 400 murders over the last 27 years, so 14.8 per annum so given a similar population, it is not too far adrift.

It is surprising how often these things happen when you actually stop and think about it- just off the top of my head and around sleepy old Ringwood while I have been working here there was poor Guy Hedger who I mentioned above, shot dead after they got into his house while he was in bed. Our...
